Ultimately, our work is data-driven. We are deeply engaged in the movement toward data standards for the immunogenetics field. Due to the critical importance of HLA and KIR in human health and ongoing requirement to translate and standardize data from numerous sources for clinical practice, our lab is developing bespoke data management and analysis software for immunogenetic research and clinical practice. We are designing scalable software tools that efficiently manage and analyze big data, and in particular next-generation sequencing data. While designed specifically for highly polymorphic immunogenetic loci, these tools and data management methods are applicable to any complex gene system. The core principals developed within these efforts also serve to inform data integration efforts within the Department of Neurology.
